What's Happening Now?
Project Update (May 30, 2025):
City Light crews finished replacing the underground cables in the Aviation Heights community last week. The new cables and underground infrastructure will help reduce the frequency and duration of outages in the community.
We also coordinated with Seattle Public Utilities (SPU) throughout construction to upgrade the water services for the community. This work will help guard against leaks and extend the life of the community’s water services.
Temporary restoration for this project is currently in place. Before we complete permanent restoration, we are planning to reach out to other utilities in the area – gas, internet, etc. – to see if they would like to update their services. We’re also working with SPU to replace several stormwater catch basins as part of this project’s permanent restoration.
Due to the rapid emergence of this project, and complex coordination needed, permanent restoration will take longer than the four-month project duration initially communicated. We appreciate your patience and understanding as we work to restore the project area.
We will publish restoration timeline updates to this webpage as they become available.
Community Benefits
This work will result in enhanced electrical reliability and reduce the likelihood of unplanned power outages in the View Ridge area.
Anticipated Impacts for Restoration
- Temporary parking and traffic restrictions. Crews will work to limit traffic impacts and traffic flaggers will be present when needed.
- Noise from equipment use is expected throughout restoration.
- All streets and landscaping affected by cable replacement construction will be permanently restored and repaved, per City of Seattle standards.
Schedule
Crews completed underground cable construction and replacement in May 2025. We will publish the permanent restoration timeline soon.
